The Fall of Richmond, Va. on the Night of April 2d. 1865 (1865) by Currier and Ives

This piece of art shows the artist's rendition of the fall or Richmond during the American Civil War. It shows explosions, buildings burning, and what appears to be the Union Army leaving over a bridge. The vibrant oranges and yellows the extent of the damage.  There is also dark billowing smoke and a haze accross the skyline.  The art made me feel sad for the events in our country's history that led to such destruction.

The Burghers of Calais (French: Les Bourgeois de Calais) by Auguste Rodin

This piece or art uses shades of green and grey which contrasts nicely with an older brick building in the background.  There are six men preparing to surrender themselves to an invading force to save others.  They look resolute in what they are doing.  This sculpture makes me sad but also appreciate the sacrifice these men made to save others.
