Two-Dimensional Work: Piet Mondrian’s Composition with Red, Blue, and Yellow

This work uses strong geometric balance through the repetition of rectangular forms. The piece shows a clear use of grid-based alignment to create unity and order. Primary colors are distributed strategically to create rhythm and movement. There is an evident use of contrast between filled and empty spaces to maintain visual interest. The artwork has a calm and structured feel to it, like everything is in perfect place.

Three-Dimensional Work: Louise Bourgeois’ Maman (Spider Sculpture)

The sculpture demonstrates a dramatic use of scale, with the towering form dominating the space around it. It uses repetition in the spindly legs, creating a rhythmic visual pattern from multiple viewing angles. There is dynamic balance despite the asymmetry of the legs, giving it a sense of tension and stability. Negative space plays a strong role, with open areas framed by the curved limbs. The scale in this work disorients me and makes me feel small and slightly uneasy.
