The artist who surprised me the most and who resonated with me deeply, was Hyeree Ro, particularly through her Precise Ambiguity project. As a philosophy major, I was immediately drawn to the conceptual foundation of her work. The very phrase “precise ambiguity” feels paradoxical in the best possible way, suggesting a space where things are clear enough to be seen but not defined. This refusal to pin down meaning invites a form of active, present-moment observation which is a key principle in both abstraction and phenomenology.
Hyeree’s practice of collecting objects from her daily life and carefully evaluating whether they align with the story and symmetry of her current project speaks to a high level of intentionality. While she is highly selective with materials, her process is driven by narrative cohesion and philosophical openness rather than technical perfection or overt symbolism. I find it particularly compelling that her work resists easy interpretation. It asks us to look without labeling and to see without needing to know.
