For this discussion I revisited previously chosen artwork
The Fall of Richmond, Va. on the Night of April 2d. 1865 (1865) by Currier and Ives
This artwork uses contrast through light and dark areas(fire and smoke). There is a repetition of lines due to the similarities in architecture. There is a sense of movement due to the directional flow of things across the bridge. The piece feels charged with destruction and tension.
The Burghers of Calais by Auguste Rodin
This sculpture uses repetition through the use of human forms. Each figure has a different build and posture to show movement. There are very detailed textures in the figures for surface. There is balance because all of the figures are different but come together nicely. The sculpture displays the weight of the situation and sadness.
