Text: When somebody can juggle lots of things at the same time, we often say that they are good multitaskers.
My Note: This is a common belief, but I already suspect the article will challenge it. I used to think being a good multitasker was a skill to brag about.
What we call multitasking is actually just switching back and forth between tasks very quickly. This constant switching makes us less productive, even with short interruptions, because it can take more than 25 minutes to fully regain focus on a task. To stay productive, Davies suggests setting aside uninterrupted 30-minute blocks to work. However, he also notes that not all multitasking is bad. Simple tasks, like listening to music while working out or doodling during a lecture, can actually help you concentrate. In short, multitasking is bad for difficult tasks but can be harmless or even helpful for easy ones.
