In reflecting on my prior exposure to visual art, it’s been a mix of different sources rather than primarily from family or school. My passion for art is deeply tied to personal explorations and intellectual curiosity, especially around art theory concepts like mimesis and the distinctions between craft and fine art. I’ve also integrated my interest in technology, using AI tools to help create consistent art, which has been crucial for my work.
I do make art, specifically as the owner of an indie comic book company. My creative focus is on producing gritty, hard-hitting content that explores intense, raw themes often found in crime drama and noir genres. The medium I primarily use is comic book art—a mix of traditional drawing techniques and digital processes, enhanced with AI-assisted character and world-building design tools.
The style I lean toward is realist yet gritty, often dark and impactful, designed to evoke strong emotions and provoke thought. My audience is mainly readers who appreciate complex storytelling with unflinching social and emotional realism, who look for more than just escapism in their graphic novels.
Even beyond what I currently do, I’m always interested in evolving my art practice, exploring new storytelling methods and media that align with the raw and authentic voice I aim to give my audience.
I’d encourage others in this forum to share their stories too—how they’ve been exposed to art, what kind they create (or want to), and who they imagine as their audience. Art, after all, is much about connection and expression as it is about technique and medium. I look forward to reading and engaging with your perspectives.
