5.2 Events 4–6: Delivering and Supporting Content

Event 4: Present the Content

Present content through multiple formats—text, video, lectures, podcasts, interactive media. Different learners respond to different formats, and providing variety increases the chance that the content “resonates” with each learner. Also consider offline accessibility: some learners have limited internet access and benefit from downloadable materials.

Event 5: Provide Learning Guidance

Learning guidance goes beyond presenting content to actively supporting comprehension. Strategies include scaffolding (connecting to prior knowledge), concept mapping and diagrams for complex multi-step processes, providing examples and non-examples, using analogies and metaphors, and visual aids that simplify complicated relationships.

Event 6: Elicit Performance (Practice)

Learners need opportunities to practice before being formally assessed. Formative assessments serve this purpose. Diverse question types (matching, drag-and-drop, short answer) engage different cognitive processes. Optional activities like journaling prompts (“In your own words, explain this concept to someone unfamiliar with it”) offer deeper engagement for motivated learners.
