3.6 Certification Timeline and Cost

Timeline:

  • Self-review and preparation: 2–8 weeks
  • External review (from submission to feedback): 4–8 weeks
  • Revisions and resubmission (if needed): 4–12 weeks
  • Total time from start to certification: 2–6 months (typically)

Cost (as of 2024):

  • Single course review: $1,200–$1,800
  • Multiple courses (bulk discount): $1,000–$1,400 per course
  • Resubmission after revision: $600–$900

Institutions may also invest in internal training (QM offers train-the-trainer programs) and in instructional design time for revisions.

3.7 Maintaining Certification: The Review Cycle

QM certification is valid for 3 years. After 3 years, a course must be re-certified to maintain its QM designation. The re-review process is the same as the initial review: self-review, external peer review, and feedback. The purpose of the 3-year cycle is to ensure that courses remain current and aligned with evolving learning standards.

Why Recertification Matters

Education evolves. Technology changes. Student needs shift. A 3-year recertification cycle ensures that QM-certified courses stay current and don't become outdated. It also provides regular opportunities for course improvement and updates.
