How does learning to distinguish between general, academic, and technical vocabulary help us read and understand science texts more effectively?

While doing this exercise, I noticed that general English words like ocean and water are easy to understand, but they don’t capture the depth of the science. Academic words like vital and factors show relationships and importance, while technical terms like phytoplankton and salinity are very specific to Earth Science.

I think being able to recognize these categories makes it easier to approach difficult readings. For example, when I see a technical word I don’t know, I can connect it to academic words around it, which usually explain the concept. This strategy not only improves comprehension but also builds confidence when reading science-heavy material.
