Research reveals a paradox: individuals who think they're skilled at multitasking often struggle with it the most. A study of 277 undergraduates found that about 70% believed they were above-average multitaskers. However, those who frequently multitasked and overestimated their abilities were actually the least effective at it. The data suggests that people multitask because they have difficulty focusing on a single task, ironically exacerbating their struggles with concentration.
